Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet potatoes
  • Coarse sea salt
  • Olive oil or herb butter

Instructions

What to do with your KLAUWE:

We grill/bake our potatoes directly in the fire (not on the grate and without aluminum foil!). Place the sweet potatoes directly IN the coal basket (fire basket) against the burning charcoal. The height at which you place the coal basket doesn’t matter much, but it’s convenient to position it a bit higher so you can easily reach it. You can also bake the potatoes while cooking something else.

The key is to ensure the potatoes are not on glowing hot coals but rather at the edge of/against your burning grey charcoal. (Maintain your KLAUWE’s temperature around 100 - 125 degrees Celsius.)

Preparing the Potatoes:

The only preparation needed is washing and drying your sweet potatoes, and then placing them directly in the coal basket. DO NOT use aluminum foil! You want that authentic barbecue flavor in your dish.

When the charcoal has a grey hue and the fire is medium hot, place the potatoes in. Let the potatoes sit there for about 60 minutes until they become soft. It’s important to move/turn the potatoes after about 30 minutes so that they cook evenly. If the fire is too high, you’ll need to turn them more frequently. (It’s okay if the outside of the potatoes turns a bit black; we won’t be eating the skin.)

What’s Next:

When the potatoes are soft all around, remove them from the fire and cut them open lengthwise. Season the flesh with coarse sea salt and a bit of olive oil or (herb) butter. You can then eat the baked potato straight from the skin.

Bon appétit and remember: Eat with your KLAUWE and Impress Your Friends!
